Oxbow Lake Social
The 2009 Oxbow Lake Social was held Saturday, August 1st, 2009 and attended by 38 cottagers. Our new neighbors, Mary Lee and Guy Manuel along with their son Lucas were the hosts opening their cottage to all for the evening.
The summer weather was true to form and provided a shower during the evening, but this did not dampen any spirits. Everyone enjoyed catching up on the news and visiting. Delicious salmon was plank barbecued with thanks to Don and Joyce Fleck and special preparations of the spiral ham were completed thanks to Lynn Brown and Shirley Cambray. The varied dishes brought by many others, completed our smorgasbord.
Ian and Susanne Goodhand sold 50/50 tickets and Mary Gaida was the happy winner! Many other door prizes were provided by other lake members and everyone went home with something! Thanks to all the evening was an enjoyable success.
Organizer Claudette McRobbie had everything under control before she and Ed had to make an unexpected return to the city due to Ed’s health. Our thoughts and prayers were with them.

The 2008 Oxbow Lake Social was held Saturday, August 2nd, 2008. Once again the weather co-operated for our evening social giving us a beautiful sunset in a lovely location, the Vigmond cottage, on east Oxbow Lake. Sharon and Jim Vigmond were our gracious hosts this year.
The food was delicious and plentiful. Thanks to those volunteers that brought along their favourite dishes for us all to enjoy and to Sharon and Jim who cooked the salmon and beef to perfection.
John Scarfe sold 50/50 tickets and his mother, Janet Scarfe was the lucky winner. She graciously donated her 50/50 winnings back to the association.
Clay Brown, who is a local metal artisan, donated a beautiful door prize of a garden dragonfly which was won by Larry Barber.
It was a fun enjoyable evening spent with neighbours; a chance to exchange news and events.
We believe this event will stay with the August long weekend in the future as it works best in combination with the other events of the weekend, golf and the regatta. As usual, a location will be needed to hold the social next year.
Thanks again to Sharon and Jim for hosting and to all the volunteers who gave their time and efforts for all of us to enjoy.
